Glimpses of Green: #Ferguson
http://glimpseofgreen.blogspot.com/2014/08/ferguson.html
Thursday, August 21, 2014. And yes, I’m talking about Ferguson. I’m a white, stay-at-home mom. I realize the fact that my husband and I are in a position where this lifestyle is even an option shows the privilege that we live. And that’s okay. I’m beyond grateful for the environment in which I grew up in and for the life I get to have with my husband and children. They will have their own battles, to be sure, but their skin color will not be one of them. But I’ve met Jesus. So days like this we have to a...

Much love to you girls. Thursday, May 23, 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. I Wanna See You Be Brave. Why We Gather (RJS). The Spohrs Are Multiplying. Monday, June 17, 2013. Can you take a minute to watch this news report or read the article? Http:/ www.wtsp.com/news/topstories/article/320873/250/Police-Man-held-two-teens-for-prostitution. Last month in Polk county, there was a prostitution bust of 92 prostitutes, pimps, and johns. The Ledger listed all 92 suspects, including a 15-year old girl. Again, she was a runaway who had been pimped out. Http:/ www.theledger.com/article/20130513/NEWS/130519770. There are tangible ways we can help. The SO.A&#...

Glimpses of Green: September 2014

Monday, September 15, 2014. Time and Relationships: Cultivating Traffic-free Communities Here and Abroad. Yet God’s not yet kingdom is so ready to burst forth here and now. Nothing worthwhile or sustainable happens overnight. Sometimes we want microwave justice, but a quick fix that helps us feel better is not justice at all. This was such an important reminder. It is always a matter of small steps forward, creating pockets of hope in a world where all sometimes seems lost. And we wait some more. It is w...

Glimpses of Green: Passing on Great Stories to Our Kids
http://glimpseofgreen.blogspot.com/2013/10/passing-on-great-stories-to-our-kids.html
Thursday, October 10, 2013. Passing on Great Stories to Our Kids. Last night I got to meet with a small group of students from a youth group that I spoke about Love146 with several months ago. These are teens whose hearts have been pricked by the desire to act in behalf of other people. How can you not love that? Our churches, our schools, our communities. I wonder if part of the problem with our culture is that we're not familiar with enough really good stories? Would it effect the choices they make?

Glimpses of Green: We Keep Telling the Story
http://glimpseofgreen.blogspot.com/2013/10/we-keep-telling-story.html
Thursday, October 17, 2013. We Keep Telling the Story. We tell good, beautiful, hopeful stories. We want them to be true. We need them to be true. Because too often reality is something else. There are stories that die without ever finding their happy ending. Characters that never get their chance to bloom,. To write a different ending. We try to bend, to control. Even to help and heal. But we're not the Author. We don't hold the pen. We make our choices. They are the only ones we can make. See you in So...

Glimpses of Green: The Art of Losing Well
http://glimpseofgreen.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-art-of-losing-well.html
Monday, October 7, 2013. The Art of Losing Well. Seriously. How many rainbow. Witches have you ever seen? Matt's perfectly green witch lost; Joel's multi-colored dream witch won. Matt's still a little bitter, so when Jax turned in his ROYGBIV pumpkin, we laughed at how ironic it would be if he won. Dance and went to pick up his prize pumpkin. I wonder if Em will remember this moment like her daddy did? Will it change how she thinks next time she loses? Monday, October 07, 2013. October 7, 2013 at 2:13 PM.

Glimpses of Green: The Lake
http://glimpseofgreen.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-lake.html
Tuesday, October 22, 2013. So bear with me for a while. You know when your brain just needs to think out of the box? To see with new eyes? Well that's where I am as of late. Which makes for really weird writing, I know. But it's just noticing the metaphors surrounding us and exploring them a bit. I can't help it. Death mingles with life with such fluidity. It's hard to tell where one begins and the other ends. Where one story ends and the next begins. All parts of the whole. And run to escape,. Why We Ca...

Glimpses of Green: April 2014
http://glimpseofgreen.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 23, 2014. There is a holy mystery in recognizing that pain births joy. How our pain can be transformed into something beautiful is beyond me, but the signs are all around. Pressure makes diamonds. Labor brings babies. Good Friday leads to Resurrection Sunday. This is the reality of Easter. My heart can be so practical. And life always moves beyond that first moment of knowing resurrection. I wonder if he ever defended her to the twelve, advocating her worth as one who was once wild and p...
