On December 24, 1947, fire once again tore through the west side of Pitt Street, this time between First and Second streets. The brick building that housed Beach Furniture was originally constructed in 1903 for the Cornwall Furniture Company. Located at the southeast corner of Sydney and 9th streets, the bankrupt business was purchased by “Charlie” A. Beach in 1908. Beach was famous for its “lyre” back chair.
