figs – The Cookbook Experiment
http://cookbookexperiment.com/tag/figs
Cooking with the Mrs. G's. Cooking Up The Pantry. Bacons on a Budget. Once again, we have had an abundance of figs on our fig tree! I thought that we had a lot last year, but I think that we have even more this summer. I have a bunch in the freezer to use in smoothies; we have dehydrated quite a few pounds; the hubby has been eating them fresh; we have sold some; and we have given some away. And I still have several pounds in the fridge! A friend shared this recipe. August 10, 2016. While we’ve bee...

Cooking with the Mrs. G's. Cooking Up The Pantry. Bacons on a Budget. A New and Better Egg Salad. I find it hard to believe that we are in the final 2 months of 2016! The year has just flown by! We are finally seeing fall colors here in the South, but our temperatures are still summery. We’ve had temps over 80 degrees every day for the last 2 weeks or so, and more are ahead this week! And it is so very dry! We’ve not had significant rainfall since July. My oldest son and his wife are now home owners!

Cooking with the Mrs. G's. Cooking Up The Pantry. Bacons on a Budget. Figs, Figs, and More Figs! After going through a dry spell this summer, we started getting some much needed rain in the last two weeks or so. The hubby put up a new rain gauge, and it is finally getting some use! This is what it showed this morning–our rain amount for the last 7 days! If you look carefully (I know it isn’t the best picture! This year only one of our fig trees has produced figs, but it has R E A L L Y produced! I didn&#...

Cooking with the Mrs. G's. Cooking Up The Pantry. Bacons on a Budget. Kitchen Tools Old and New. While working in the kitchen yesterday, cutting up veggies for the hubby’s evening salad, I realized that my knives needed to be sharpened. I am so thankful for this vintage electric knife sharpener that was my mom’s. I have no idea how old it is, but it still works famously for sharpening knives! The immersion blender that Sam gave me for Christmas has become my new favorite kitchen tool. It is amazing!
Care Packages for my College Kid – The Cookbook Experiment

Cooking with the Mrs. G's. Cooking Up The Pantry. Bacons on a Budget. Care Packages for my College Kid. But the package must also be sturdy enough so that home baked goodies do not get crushed in the process of going from here to there. The workers at The Citadel post office were actually the ones who gave me the idea that I am about to share here. I can use a small priority mail box and a small flat rate envelope together. 530 (postage just went up) no matter how heavy it is! I also discovered about hal...

Joyful Adorations: July 2014
http://joyfuladorations.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 28, 2014. On Thursday evening we hosted a get together with friends. It was a really fun evening! All the kids had a great time swinging! I pushed them for about 20 minutes - quite a workout! Lily almost has "pumping" figured out, but her legs still get tired. At a concert - it's been literally years since we've done that since Jacob is normally playing or conducting! I love these marigolds in our garden. They are so vibrant. Monday, July 14, 2014. While Daddy was gone. Jacob and his dad had...

Joyful Adorations: April 2015
http://joyfuladorations.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Motherhood Unexpected - book review. I have been working really hard to read more (pleasure reading for myself) this year. When my friend, Deanna, announced that she was writing a book, I knew it would be on my list even though I don't typically read a lot of fiction. Is an outstanding book! It is a novel about three women who each face difficult, life-changing circumstances and struggle to see God's hand through them. I could hardly put the book down! Meanwhile, Claire's teena...

Joyful Adorations: Pregnancy update {Baby #5}
http://joyfuladorations.blogspot.com/2015/08/pregnancy-update-baby-5.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. Pregnancy update {Baby #5}. This pregnancy is flying by so quickly! I am currently 33 weeks along! It is so different being (big) pregnant during the summer! I get worn out so much faster than I ever remember. It's been kind of hard for me because my kids love to be outside all the time and normally we spend most of the summer outside, but this year, we are spending a lot of time inside reading. We try to get out in the morning and in the evening when it's a little cooler. Div ali...

I only ate one piece of bacon and sausage - the kids begged for the other pieces :). I despise being late for church, but we were. Ava and Grammie - Ava turned 18 months today! Yummy fruit (local strawberries from the farmer's market - so yum! For supper with my family. We hugely surprised my mom with an iPad for mother's day! Labels: 10 on 10. The Homestead Ar...

Friday, January 23, 2015. Catching Up: Christmas activities. Lily has been taking piano/music lessons from one of Jacob's violin student's mom. We trade lessons and it's worked out great for Jacob to teach the daughter in one room and Lily to have her lesson in another. Lily's been learning composers, rhythm, theory, fun songs and games. She loves it! The last storytime at the library before Christmas break. My kids love. Going to storytime every Monday morning! We also acted out the Christmas Story!
Joyful Adorations: December 2014

Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Happy Birthday, Levi! I am really not sure how it's possible that this guy is 4! He is such a joy to our home. He is silly. He likes to tease. He has a tender heart. He loves to snuggle. He loves to draw and cut. He loves to be outside riding his bike or swinging on the tire swing. He likes for anyone to tickle him. He has been through so much in his short life, but it is amazing to see how how he has overcome so many obstacles! Our two 4 year olds! Friday, December 26, 2014.

Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Last weekend was soooo cold, but we got out and did a lot of activities! Jacob an to a consignment store on Thursday to get the 3 big kids heavy coats because all they had were hoodies. Thursday evening the chamber group of the youth orchestra Jacob conducts was playing at our city's downtown open house and Christmas tree lighting ceremony. It was fun just super cold! What's cookin at our house:. Friday, September 2, 2011. LIfe is hard. Love is easy? One of my favorite movies is "Dan in Real Life." In the movie his teenage daughter is adamant that she is deeply in love with her young boyfriend. Her young boyfriend tells her father (Steve Carrell) that "love isn't a feeling. It's an ability.". While this is attached to a more funny part of the film, I have always loved that adage. And the more I live and the more I love, the more true his statement is. I haven't come t...

I love cooking and books. I have lots of cookbooks and realized I might have cooked dozen or so of the recipes. What a waste. My new mission is to cook every recipe in the cookbooks. Due to needing a low sodium lifestyle, I will alter some of the ingredients. This blog is a review of the recipes with notations of how I altered them to make them healthier and lower in sodium.
