A large cupboard, newly painted, with a stack of doors against it, waiting to be restored to it. And self and Small Daughter sleeping peacefully on the hide-a-bed (it's too hot up in the loft bed). She looks at me over the top of the kitchen island as I lay on the floor in the pile of doors. "What are you doing? Did you know there's a bird in here?
