Netflix Junkie: The Grand Budapest Hotel
http://www.netflixjunkie.com/2015/01/the-grand-budapest-hotel.html
Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. The Grand Budapest Hotel. I’ve had it with Wes Anderson. The Grand Budapest Hotel. Looks marvelous, represents a unique vision, and tells its story with wit and creativity. I hated it. It’s the Manic Pixie Dream Girl of movies. Its love interest has a birthmark the exact shape of Mexico running down her cheek because – whimsy! Its one honest and noble character meets a horrific end because – unpredictability! The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Netflix Junkie: Minions
http://www.netflixjunkie.com/2015/07/minions.html
Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Wednesday, July 22, 2015. We’re 2/3 of the way through Minions. Nobody’s laughing. Families have walked out. My 8-year-old is reading his popcorn box. My wife leans over and whispers, “Will this movie never end? 8221; I whisper back, “Two words: catastrophic failure.”. There’s nothing funny about torture chambers. And yet, when the credits rolled, my 8-year-old and his friends declared that they loved it; so what do I know? All I can say is the Minions.

Netflix Junkie: Jupiter Ascending
http://www.netflixjunkie.com/2015/08/jupiter-ascending.html
Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Sunday, August 02, 2015. There are two kinds of people in the world:. Those who can get behind a wonderful, over-the-top inheritor of the Flash Gordon. Mantle such as Jupiter Ascending. And those without an ember of joy in their cold, dead hearts. However, there’s a modern twist: the peasant’s a woman. She gets the boy. Beyond that, Jupiter Ascending. Is pretty standard stuff. You’ve got your evil, decadent overlords bent on no good. That said, Jupiter Ascending.

Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Tuesday, August 04, 2015. Walking out of Ant-Man. My oldest engaged me in the following conversation:. 8220;Whadja think, Dad? 8220;It was fine.”. 8220;Why didn’t you like it? 8220;I did like it. It was fine.”. 8220;But not good. What was wrong with it? It was fine.”. It really was fine. It starred Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, both of whom are always welcome presences. I laughed at the jokes. I grooved to the visuals. I lost track of time. The outfits and mot...

Netflix Junkie: Chef
http://www.netflixjunkie.com/2014/07/chef.html
Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Friday, July 18, 2014. Funny and kind, Chef. Is a feel-good movie that sent me home with a smile on my face. In the film, John Favreau plays a workaholic chef. He's divorced. He doesn't spend enough time with his son. He works for a restaurateur who's a businessman first and an epicurean second. He's miserable. When he loses his job and must start anew with a dilapidated food truck, things seem about as bad as they can get. Is the latter. It's genuinely, la...

Netflix Junkie: Her
http://www.netflixjunkie.com/2015/07/her.html
Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Monday, July 13, 2015. Is the kind of movie that makes me love movies. It’s a challenging piece of science fiction, a moving drama, and a piece that illuminates the human condition. It’s brilliant. The AI, self-named Samantha seems real. In some ways, she is real. But she isn’t corporeally there. She isn’t human. What kind of a life has this man, brilliantly portrayed by Joachim Phoenix, bought into? However, isn’t just vehicle for late-night navel-gazing...

Netflix Junkie: John Wick
http://www.netflixjunkie.com/2015/07/john-wick.html
Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. I like Keanu Reeves. He makes fun movies like 47 Ronin. He seems like a decent fellow. And he’s nice to Alex Winter. He completely loses his cool and releases a howl of pain, rage, and vengefulness that shocks the complacent action-movie fan right out of his seat. There are lots of movies like this, but there are three things that make John Wick. To assorted members of John Wick. 8217;s Lance Reddick, Deadwood. They prove, once again, ...

Feeding the Addiction, One Movie at a Time. Monday, January 05, 2015. There are two kinds of people in the world: those who can get behind a movie like 47 Ronin. And those who make me sad. Is set in a mythic, legendary Japan. It tells the story of 47 samurai who, though outcasts following the dishonor of their master, hatch a plan to redeem his honor and set the world to right. It’s steeped in a heightened, storybook version of Japanese bushido. Culture, and it’s wonderful entertainment. Aint it Cool News.
