The blog of Matt: iOS from an Android user's perspective
http://mlaroche.blogspot.com/2011/11/ios-from-android-perspective.html
The blog of Matt. Tuesday, November 08, 2011. IOS from an Android user's perspective. I'm starting at Strava. At the end of the month - a cycling and running data company that has iOS and Android apps. I already have a Google Nexus S. Android device. I wanted to be able to try out Strava's iOS app, so I picked up an iPod Touch. Every once in a while, I read iPhone users' responses to trying out Android, and invariably they're frustrated, disappointed, and certain iOS is the better platform. Every tim...

The blog of Matt: July 2011
http://mlaroche.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
The blog of Matt. Tuesday, July 19, 2011. But I've started to do something that looks suspiciously like doing chores: I've started to block out time with the simple goal of making my life better. If I have a weekend chunk of time free, I just walk around thinking "What would make my life better? And then I do it! Here's the funny thing to me: I don't like chores. But these things I'm doing are chores - and I'm doing them happily. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Xkcd - a webcomic.

The blog of Matt: October 2010
http://mlaroche.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
The blog of Matt. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Part of my grandfather's legacy. So the language is going to be much more tuned to watch aficionados than my friends and family. My grandfather, John J. Bubbers, passed away in May. The watch I'm referencing, an Omega Speedmaster Pro, is also known as "the moon watch" because it was worn by Apollo astronauts and tuned to being in space in several ways.]. I believe this is a ST145.012, a caliber 321 Speedmaster. For service. The Hesalite is pretty heavily...

The blog of Matt: The landlord game
http://mlaroche.blogspot.com/2011/11/landlord-game.html
The blog of Matt. Thursday, November 10, 2011. Helen and I have been on the lease for our apartment since September 2007. The landlord had us sign a 2 year lease, with a $50/month rent increase after 12 months (in September 2008). There hasn't been another rent increase since then. The rent is low for Palo Alto. I joke to friends that our approach has been to not contact our landlord at all - if she forgets about us, then she won't remember to raise our rent! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The blog of Matt. Friday, October 28, 2011. In 2000, Joel Spolsky (insightful software engineering blogger) introduced The Joel Test. It tests the bare minimum for a dev team with 12 easy questions:. Do you use source control? Can you make a build in one step? Do you make daily builds? Do you have a bug database? Do you fix bugs before writing new code? Do you have an up-to-date schedule? Do you have a spec? Do programmers have quiet working conditions? Do you use the best tools money can buy? Things Goo...

The blog of Matt: Five things every Carnegie Mellon student should do before graduation
http://mlaroche.blogspot.com/2011/10/five-things-every-carnegie-mellon.html
The blog of Matt. Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Five things every Carnegie Mellon student should do before graduation. If you spend more than a year in Pittsburgh, you should try to do all of these:. Visit the Frank Lloyd Wright houses Fallingwater. I've never been to Kentuck Knob - it's a shame since it's 7 miles from Fallingwater). It's the best old-time amusement park in the United States. Their halloween evenings ("Phantom Fright Nights") are great. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In the west again.
