Christina Hardyment - Adventures

http://christinahardyment.co.uk/christinahardyment-adventures.html

Gypsy on the Thames. Dulcibella on the Thames. Dulcibella on the Thames. Up the Stripling Thames: Pinkhill to Tadpole Bridge. After an hour or so, I was feeling rather sleepy, and the wind was rising, so when a passing narrow boat offered me a tow, I accepted gratefully. In no time at all, Newbridge came into sight, and I thanked them and was set free to pole in under my own steam. Barnaby passed me as I did so - I expect they guessed that I had cheated. The ultimate global village? Soon after this the l...

Gypsy on the Thames. Dulcibella on the Thames. I was born in 1946, and lived in England as a child, except for two years in South Africa (1951-1953). I went to the Lady Eleanor Holles School, Hampton (1954-1964). Then to Newnham College, Cambridge (1964-7). Where I read history. After leaving university I discovered that my father was the Norwegian resistance fighter and writer Eiliv Odde Hauge. I have since met my Norwegian relations and made many trips to Norway. Giant Hands, Manesty, Derwentwater.

Have Book Will Travel: June 2008

http://havebookwilltravel.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 25, 2008. My daughter and I enjoyed a beautiful beach walk this morning at low tide with our dog. It was the first day that really felt like summer to me. We were enjoying the freedom of time not just sleeping in and regretting the laziness later. The great part for me was reflecting with her about various beach memories- both home and away. It is gratifying as a parent to hear that the experiences we afford our children have actually registered and can be recalled. 160;contribute to it w...

Have Book Will Travel: Boy Overboard-Saved!

http://havebookwilltravel.blogspot.com/2008/04/boy-overboard-saved.html

Wednesday, April 16, 2008. You know I love books. So much so, that we have opted out of television at our house- for the past 10 years.  Anything for more family time and reading! What you also need to know is that I am married to a movie buff.  In addition, our son is such a visual learner that he has the production studios and ratings of his favorite movies memorized.  Ask him what movie Julie Andrews was in and he'll recite a list including Victor, Victoria. As all good movies are, Captains Courageous.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008. A Very New York Christmas. New York has a lot of everything. The key to a pleasurable time there is having a good guide or knowing where you are going. Otherwise, you may just feel lost in the mass of opportunities. Whether you choose to beeline it to The Met and see their tree and Neopolitan creche. Or do a walking tour of the department store window displays. There is a book to embellish your jaunt. Through the Shopping Glass. Angel Tree: A Christmas Celebration. Is an eng...

Here is a clip from the educational film made by Phoenix Learning. Traveling to Plimoth Plantation. My kids still talk about the giant slide in the theme pool at the John. Monday, April 21, 2008. New York City from the Air. Is a talented man with autism.  In this video he visits New York City and is able to draw it in exact architectural detail as he has done in every major city of the world.  It is an amazing reminder in April- which is Autism Awareness Month- that when one area of the brain is impaired very often another is exceptional.  More on that in my other blog, Autism Unplugged. Have you read the Cam Jansen. Books by David Adler? By Peter Sis. His books are in...

Notebook

Gypsy on the Thames. Dulcibella on the Thames. Sunday, February 12, 2017. A tranquil Sunday morning by candlelight, musing on Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle. For my new book The Home as Hero. A series of vignettes about houses that are central to novels. It'll be chronological, and I've only done Otranto, Mansfield Park and Waverley so far, so I should be studying Emily Brontë's Gondal writings and her father's novels, but I felt like a bit of light relief. Betsy and Baby Susan making bread. Now hood...

Gypsy on the Thames. Dulcibella on the Thames. My interests divide between a fascination with the historical background to our everyday lives – the way we run our homes and bring up our children, and the food we eat - and a love of literary geography: exploring the settings that inspired writers classic and modern. I’ve written eleven books on these subjects. The best known are Dream Babies: Childcare Advice from John Locke to Gina Ford. And Arthur Ransome and Captain Flint’s Trunk. Writing The Thames,.

The Harkers

Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The backyard of the house we are renting is fabulous. Because it is fully fenced I can let the kids play outside without worrying about them. They love the swing set and beautiful landscaping to explore. Reading one of their favorite books together. Exploring one of our favorite parks. So determined. And don't you try to tell him he's not as big as his sisters! We had our annual fancy family dinner. Crab, mmm! With one of my two main men. Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Cam got a new haircut.
