After the comic books were read and reread, we would use the 3D glasses to watch TV. We imagined that it worked, but mostly all you got for your trouble as a headache. My brother and I would excitedly recount the adventures of the day to Dad when he got home. We offered to share our 3D comic books but he always declined with, "Boys, those things give me a headache.". There were acres of woods, unbroken fields, and a creek to run and play in. I recently called an old high school buddy to congratulate him on his recent retirement. The conversation lapsed in a series of "remember that time." when he said he thought he had a copy of a story I wrote for a writing competition. I hadn't thought about it in years, but he found it and sent it to me. Since I was both an incurable show off and a sucker for a pretty face, I wrote this story for the sole purpose of pleasing her. To my shock, I won first place. The young author in 1967 at 17 years old.
