Tue, 2011-04-12 18:03. Which instance of CASTOR am I using? Which service is it providing to me? There are several separate instances providing CASTOR services to different users communities. They are distinct sets of resources (disk part) but using the same name server and tape infrastructure. Each of them has a priori a different SLA (Service Level Agreement) which is described in the corresponding page. The names of these instances (called Functional Elements) are pretty self-explanatory:.

Documentation - CASTOR at CERN. At CERN, there are several instances of CASTOR that service the different user communities. The disk part of the resouces are specific, but the name server and tape infrastructure parts are shared. The 5 major functional modules are:. Stager - this disk pool manager allocates and reclaims space; it also controls client access and oversees the disk pool local catalogue. File offset location on tape. The cost of storage per terabyte on tape is a lot less than that on hard di...

Wed, 2011-04-06 18:47. CASTOR's design is based on a component architecture (Architecture diagram). Using a central database that safeguards the state changes of the components. The access to disk pools is controlled by the Stager - the directory structure being kept by the Name Server. The tape access (write and recalls) is controlled by the Tape Infrastructure. The 5 major functional modules are:. Client - this allows the user to upload, download, access and manage CASTOR data. Amp;amp;lt;a data-cke-sa...
