Tuesday, May 27, 2014. One of the art lessons that has made a lasting impression with me was an experience my dad had when he was in art school. He told me that after laboriously drawing the day's model, the instructor had all the students erase their work, turn it upside down, and start again. The moral of the story is not to think that your work is ever too precious for improvement. I have been working on this quilt on and (mostly off) for over a decade. The whole tale is on my blog. Add a few lines fr...

Friday, March 28, 2014. Here, back after falling down the winter's rabbit hole. I've been working on a few new things but mostly resting up, reading and drinking hot tea (and coffee). One of the things that I do in the warmer weather is to rust fabric and different fibers so that I have plenty to play with in the cooler months. I've been playing around with creating collages out of bits and pieces of rusted and naturally dyed fabric. The photo really does not do it justice. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. It se...

8 that create: Portfolios
http://8thatcreate.blogspot.com/2014/08/portfolios.html
Monday, August 25, 2014. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Last week I was in Oregon and attended a reception at a gallery. Where one of my Army Wife aprons was part of a group show. I shared my Army Wife portfolio with the curator, and she asked if the gallery could keep the portfolio for the duration of the show. Of course! It will be a great ambassador for my series. I also showed two other portfolios at lunch during a quilt show in Portland. Labels: art and life. Excellent idea, Kristin!

Colored Fingertip: December 2015
http://coloredfingertip.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 20, 2015. Urban Sketch from Trostberg. Today I did my very first real urban sketch in Trostberg - a town near my home! I have drawn it out of my car because I was too shy to sit outside where people were passing by. My setup in the car - I sketched from the passenger seat. Trostberg has a beautiful historic center on the side of a hill - this is the back side of the main street. I started with pencil and then used a Pitt Pen XS from Faber Castell for the ink work. Quilting on my sewing machine - I occupied the dining room for nearly 4 weeks. The finished quilt on the bed. Every grey square has another quilt pattern. I love ...

Saturday, June 28, 2014. On my way to the next town there is a cornfield. On its edge are these beautiful flowers growing. I am so happy to see them because in the years before there weren't any flowers growing in the fields around us. It remember me on my childhood, when in every field were cornflowers and poppies.
