Friday, March 23, 2007. It took years of living in (what most call) the land of eternal summer to recognize the subtle indications of spring. Now that I recognize it, it seems as obvious as the first purple Crocus breaking through the snow. We exchange the small room heater in our bedroom for a box fan, and we leave the windows open late into the evening because the air feels good, not because we seared a steak without the exhaust fan on. It’s subtle, but it all happens within weeks. Soaked to the bone.

Monday, October 6, 2008. If you don't want the movers to load it, hide it at the neighbors. We ended up unpacking several things that belonged to the rental house in Virginia Beach. Luckily, our former landlord was cool about it. If you want the food in your refrigerator, it's best to load it in the car when you leave. Just because you can open a door from the inside doesn't mean it's UNLOCKED! We learned this lesson two hours, a locksmith fee, and a new doorknob later. Posted by Satasha @ 10:57 PM.

Wednesday, May 28, 2008. I had rabbits when I was a kid, but they were of the soft, colorful, caged variety. These are scratched-up, clover-eating brown rabbits that live under the shed in our back yard. Is that an earring? We also have neighborhood ducks. The neighborhood ducks are just normal-looking, green-headed ducks, but the lady across the street has a duck I've never seen before. I don't know what our neighbor calls her duck, but we call it Jimi.as in Jimi Hendrix (maybe in his graying years).
