Bushbasher: April 2012
http://mattbushwalking.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 12 April 2012. Easter at Mt Feathertop. We had aimed at getting up to Mt Feathertop some time in February but due to some very unfortunate circumstances we weren't able to make it. We made new plans for Easter and were able to be joined by some friends this time. The day arrived and we started walking in cloud, with the threat of rain and a forecast of thunderstorms. This didn't slow the boys down who took off a a great pace with no sign of slowing down. Mt Buffalo in the morning. We summited i...

Bushbasher: March 2012
http://mattbushwalking.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 9 March 2012. This is a beautiful, undulating walk along the edge of button grass plains. Much of the walk is spent looking ahead to Mount Olympus laid out in magnificent panorama. Last of the Buttongrass plains. Whether it was the coffee waiting for us, the ferry to take us along the lake, or the bed waiting for us in Hobart, we made excellent time this morning and ended up with an hour or more to rest and explore the river and upper reaches of Lake St Clair before the ferry arrived. I'm a param...

Bushbasher: November 2011
http://mattbushwalking.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, 26 November 2011. November was a great month as I finally got to go bush again after 18 months with no adventures. This one happened because I had annual leave when my wife's school needed an extra helper for a school camp. I only had to be prepared to accompany 15 boys aged 14-15 years old. The camp took place over 5 days following a circuit from Mt Loch, near Mt Hotham, across the Bogong High Plains to Cope Hut then back to Mt Feathertop and home. Mt Feathertop from Mt Loch carpark. Day 3 cou...

Bushbasher: December 2011
http://mattbushwalking.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, 4 December 2011. This a rather amazing follow up to an incident from the Bogong High Plains walk. As I mentioned in my previous post, I lost my GPS receiver somewhere between Dibbin Hut and Cobungra Gap. I backtracked on the day and had a quick search but, unfortunately, I was unable to find it. Fast forward to Thursday afternoon 3 days ago. My mobile phone rang and an unknown voice asked "Is that Matt? Happily back at home. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow me on Twitter. Review: The Laydle inf...

Bushbasher: February 2012
http://mattbushwalking.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 21 February 2012. The Overland Track Day 6 - January 6, 2009. Today we are truly on the downhill run, except there's still one range to cross. Thankfully the track crosses the lowest point of the Du Cane range and not over Castle Crag as shown in the photo. Today would be a beautiful walk through a lot of temperate rainforest and then into drier eucalypt forest. Once we reached the top of the Gap we noticed the environment start to dry out and the fauna start to change. After the steady clim...

Bushbasher: Preparing for future walks.
http://mattbushwalking.blogspot.com/2013/02/preparing-for-future-walks.html
Monday, 4 February 2013. Preparing for future walks. You may have noticed that things have been pretty quiet on the bushwalking front lately. Despite having a couple of trips planned over the summer holidays we were unable to get away at all. This was mostly due to Australia's habit of catching alight over summer. There has been one upshot of this inability to go walking. It inspires me to start considering future walks and what may be required to complete these. My thoughts over recent weeks hav...The A...
