Saturday, September 27, 2008. Holy Cow by Sarah Macdonald. I wrote this post right after I read this book, i. e. a very long time ago. I will use it as my first in a long time to publish so it will get me back into the mood for some more writing. All the while she writes with alacrity and perfect comic timing. I wish there were more authors such as her, who can analyze real time issues, with a sense of purpose but at the same time the ability to make the reader smile the whole way. A great travelogue!

Friday, July 18, 2008. Summer in our backyard. Critique of some books I have read recently. When I picked up Anita Nair's Mistress, I did so after thoroughly enjoying Ladies Coupe (which btw was a great recommendation, sis! In Twentieth Wife, Indu Sundaresan does a fantastic job of weaving in history and detail into her fiction, but the last couple chapters seemed to have been written in a rush. After all the hard work by the author, a good closure is what it missed. Malladi's The Mango Season (thank you...

Wednesday, January 21, 2009. It felt good to watch the inauguration and ceremonies that followed with the girls. I thank my job for giving me the day off to do so. We were so involved that I was even corrected by my 4 year old later in the day that he is now rightfully Prez Obama. The part of the speech that really got to me, was the inclusive statement by Obama of all religions and the world as a whole. I really felt like I belonged after a very long time. My fashion conscious teenager agreed too!

I should be working, but. Like any blog, a collection of musings and non-literary venting. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. I wish to be taken out to the ball game. I wish to be taken out to the crowd. I would like to be bought some peanuts and Cracker Jack. I don’t care if anyone ever gets me back…. Not very powerful, is it? Bad: The curveball was missed by the batter. Good: Strasburg smoked a 103-mph fastball past the dazed batter, dazzling the capacity crowd. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The Committee’s rep...

I should be working, but. Like any blog, a collection of musings and non-literary venting. Friday, August 29, 2008. Too Old to Breed, Too Young to Lead. Watching the news coverage of Sarah Palin's being chosen to be John McCain's running mate, and talking to co-workers, I've observed something a little surprising. Palin, who like me, is 44, is caught in a sort of middle-aged no man's land. So, we're old, right? No, not really. But too young? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Me, without makeup.

I should be working, but. Like any blog, a collection of musings and non-literary venting. Saturday, August 15, 2009. A week or two before Max died, I joined an online support group, at the suggestion of a colleague, for people who have dogs with cancer. I'm not normally a support group kind of gal, but Max's prognosis was terrible, and I just wanted to know what others were doing to help their doggies- and themselves- through a confusing and emotional time. Godless though I am, I don't see death as the ...

I should be working, but. Like any blog, a collection of musings and non-literary venting. Friday, June 27, 2008. Sittin on the dock of the bay. All week long, I chug through my days with nothing in sight but the weekend. If I can just get through Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, I can finally grasp the golden ring of the weekend. Then the weekend comes, and I don't get done what I want (which is usually to relax and forget about work), and suddenly it's Monday again. Now, John at the bar is a friend of mine.

I should be working, but. Like any blog, a collection of musings and non-literary venting. Tuesday, July 22, 2008. My BFF Laura sent me an e-mail the other day in response to my last entry- something to the effect of, "You sold your soul to a non-profit, right? That makes you a crappy negotiator.". Perhaps the wages of sin aren't so great, but it does have a few lovely perks. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Me, without makeup. Metro DC, Maryland, United States. View my complete profile.
