Editorial Ass: why the first page of your manuscript is so dang important
http://editorialass.blogspot.com/2010/06/why-first-page-of-your-manuscript-is-so.html
I work in publishing and I like to read things. Herewith: free association on books, nice things I ate, publishing, editing, and other nice things I ate. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Why the first page of your manuscript is so dang important. Just briefly, because I am up to my tailbone in manuscripts. Heaps and heaps and heaps of manuscripts. At the moment, all of them fiction. 90% of them debut novels. All of their authors hoping desperately for a book deal, for a home for their beloved novel. I think thi...

Keep your 2 barrels of Mootools, I am keeping my barrel of jQuery | Benoît Vidis
http://www.benoitvidis.com/2011/03/keep-your-mootools-barrel-i-keep-my-barrel-of-jquery
Keep your 2 barrels of Mootools, I am keeping my barrel of jQuery. As I was latetly assigned to a new project at my new job, the question of the choice of the javascript framework to use raised. My fellow co-workers were used to Mootools and our talented HTML integrator had already used some Mootools code in here work. So Mootools would it be. JQuery was the only javascript I had really worked with and I took this as a great opportunity to learn something new. So I went for it quite enthusiastically.

Snap Reviews: How does your website sound?
http://snap-review.blogspot.com/2010/02/how-does-your-website-sound.html
Reviews of stuff that interests me. Thursday, 25 February 2010. How does your website sound? I've been having some fun with CodeOrgan. Today as I listen to the different sounds of some of my favourite websites. It's a really clever piece of software that uses a Flash program to encode contents of the webpage you give it into a polyphonic, if you're lucky, rhythmic tune. Sounds very stringy and has a bit of backbeat going on. Seems to play a very short jingle. Maybe it's their 404 page :). Safer Internet ...

Snap Reviews: Teasing out Software Requirements
http://snap-review.blogspot.com/2010/02/teasing-out-software-requirements.html
Reviews of stuff that interests me. Friday, 26 February 2010. Teasing out Software Requirements. One of the hardest. Things to do in software development is to cover all your requirements and ensure that when you actually start coding there will be a simple transfer of ideas to implementation. These days I try to be flexible when listening and use all my investigative skills but when the client(s) have signed off then the flexibility has to be replaced by pragmatism. Good Communication is the key and...

Snap Reviews: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - first trailer released.
http://snap-review.blogspot.com/2010/06/harry-potter-and-deathly-hallows-first.html
Reviews of stuff that interests me. Monday, 7 June 2010. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - first trailer released. At last the build up to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The book has been split into two movies, something which might be a good idea as there is an awful lot to explain and some mistakes were made in the last film (Half Blood Prince) with too many cuts and changes to the original plot. Based on this trailer do you think the films will be entertaining and worth going to see?

Snap Reviews: CamStudio Screen Recorder Free - Review
http://snap-review.blogspot.com/2010/03/camstudio-screen-recorder-free-review.html
Reviews of stuff that interests me. Thursday, 4 March 2010. CamStudio Screen Recorder Free - Review. This is a useful one to know about. Much as I love Camtasia, because it's a brilliant suite of screen recording software, I don't have a licence for it. I've been debugging this morning, tracking down errors in software, which can be a real nightmare as you have to reproduce the conditions reliably. Screen capture software is great for this as you can record the mouse clicks as they happen. Demo Creator&#...

Snap Reviews: Web developer tools I use every day
http://snap-review.blogspot.com/2010/02/web-developer-tools-i-use-every-day.html
Reviews of stuff that interests me. Friday, 26 February 2010. Web developer tools I use every day. In my work as a PHP/Javascript developer there are a few software tools I use every day to assist in productivity and implementing effective code. The majority of the tools here are Open Source and many are available for Windows users as well. For most of my work I'm using a computer running Ubuntu. Integrated Development Environment - IDE. In the past and this is also a very good IDE. As it provides a very...
