A laser-cut Daruma, made from red, black, white, and yellow acrylic, as well as some medium density fiberboard (MDF) for the face texture. Made as a part of a set with the Taiko no Tatsujin train. I couldn’t figure out where to put it on the train (since the train is already so packed with stuff), so it’s a standalone piece. It’s based on the stylized Daruma. The daruma or 達磨. SPACEWORLD 2000 PROTOTYPE GBA AGS 101 BACKLIGHT. 15 years ago, Nintendo released the original Game Boy Advance, with a glorious round form factor that was a pleasure to hold. They first unveiled the prototype at Spaceworld 2000 in Japan, with a special orange and silver color scheme. That was never actually released. Bull; MIKE CHOI 2015.

I began learning Solidworks in my freshman year at UPenn and it was love at first extrude. I’m now a Solidworks sharpshooting speed demon and I hardly go a day without jumping on it once or twice. I’m always helping students with their Solidworks troubleshooting and I’m a teaching assistant for MEAM 101: Introduction to Mechanical Design, where students become highly effective Solidworkers and explore deliberate mechanical design. Orchestra is a 1’ tall twisting septagonal prism that functions as a monotone wireless speaker. It uses the MAEVARM family of peripherals and active filtering to output a sine wave from the M2 microcontroller. Orchestra was made using ¼" acrylic sheets suspended by steel rods. The speaker used was the 8 ohm GF1004. Orchestra was completed as a project for MEAM 510: Design of Mechatronic Systems @ UPenn. Bull; MIKE CHOI 2015.

Made to be the ultimate piece of desk candy, this miniature version of. Guy Manuel de Homem Christo’s helmet. From the popular electronic duo, Daft Punk. The metal body is made of two symmetrical pieces machined on a full 3-axis CNC mini mill (Haas). After many hours of sanding and polishing I was able to achieve the super shiny finish seen in the pictures above. Anodizing was done to make the aluminum appear like Gold/Brass. The visor is held in via a magnet. Bull; MIKE CHOI 2015.

BLACK MESA PORTAL GUN. This project is still under construction. This is supposed to be an alternate version of the iconic Aperture Science Handheld Portal Gun from the Portal series of video games from Valve. This version of the gun is imagined up by Kevin Alcedo. And Mike Choi- what would happen if Aperture Science’s rival company, Black Mesa, got their hands on the top secret blue prints for the Portal Gun? An actual model is in the works. Stay tuned. STRYKER is a fast, light, autonomous hockey playing robot. It is made from laser cut sheets of acrylic and ABS, and uses a layered-channel design to contain various sensors, including a laser break beam puck detection sensor. STRYKER runs on the M2 and the MAEVARM family of microcontroller peripherals and is powered by a pair of 3-cell lithium polymer batteries. And the programming was done in collaboration with Daleroy Sibanda. Bull; MIKE CHOI 2015.
