Bill's Birding: April 2015
http://billsbirding.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Moth trapping: what's it all about? 26 April, 2015. I spent my Sunday helping to run a Worcester Bat Group stall at the Knapp and Papermill, a local reserve run by the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. It was a beautiful day and fantastic location, and any spare time I could find was spent chilling by river watching a Dipper collect food in the shallow water, whilst nearby a pair of Kingfishers appeared to be feeding chicks in a hole in the river bank. 18 April, 2015. Of Emperor Moths and Disappointment.

Moth trapping: what's it all about? Ask any nature nut, and most will agree that there is little more satisfying in our constantly changing world of identification and classification than adding natural history literature to our bookshelves. There is just something so satisfying about physically flicking through an actual, real-life book that internet sites and Kindles, as good as they are, will never be able to fully replace. A Guide to Spiders of Britain and Northern Europe. Dick Jones, 1983). The book...
Bill's Birding: Scarlet Tigers like weeds and so should you!

Moth trapping: what's it all about? 14 April, 2015. Scarlet Tigers like weeds and so should you! The advantage of owning a small, poorly maintained and scruffy student garden is that it contains all the infamous weeds that are often first on a gardener's list to pull-up, but that are also essential for invertebrates. Ours is full of Hemp Agrimony and Green Alkanet, two unloved native perennials which in our garden support a thriving colony of Scarlet Tiger. The more untidy the better I say! North Downs a...
Bill's Birding: What a transformation!
http://billsbirding.blogspot.com/2015/05/what-transformation.html
Moth trapping: what's it all about? 16 May, 2015. The past couple of weeks have seen the alleyway behind our student house transform into an invertebrate haven, with a healthy range of common plants (Green Alkanet, Herb Robert, Red Campion, Deadly Nightshade and Ribwort Plantain to name a few) sprouting up on the disturbed ground. Add to that a couple of garden escapes (Greater Celandine and Honesty) and the alley has become an attractive location for visiting pollinators. View my complete profile. Moth ...

Of moths and man (and other stuff): Recent offerings
http://mothsandman.blogspot.com/2015/07/recent-offerings.html
Of moths and man (and other stuff). Sunday, July 26, 2015. With the abysmal weather of the last few days and a mounting workload before summer holidays next week, natural history has taken a bit of a sideline. I have had the moth trap a couple of times which has resulted in three new species for the garden. Firstly, Lunar-spotted Pinion Cosmia pyralina,. Not one that was on my radar and threw me at first when i turned over the egg box. Not unsusal locally though apparently. View my complete profile.
Of moths and man (and other stuff): January 2015
http://mothsandman.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Of moths and man (and other stuff). Saturday, January 24, 2015. My first woodlouse.or is it? Well I say my first woodlouse, but in all honesty I've seen hundreds of the things it's just that I've never got round to trying to identifying one to species. So while laying a hedge and moving some bricks in the garden today I decided to pot a couple I found and sat down with a copy of the AIDGAP Woodlice book by Hopkins. Unsurprisingly, it keyed out as the rather common Oniscus asellus. Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Of moths and man (and other stuff). Saturday, May 30, 2015. Garden odds and ends. As tomorrow is looking a little iffy on the weather front, I had a day catching up with gardening chores. Most of the day was spent mowing with occasionally pauses to pot insects that I came across. The pick of today's bunch were a Helophilus pendulus. Hoverfly, a Scorpionfly Panorpa. Spp and a Red-headed Cardinal Beetle Pyrochroa serraticornis. Friday, May 29, 2015. Trapping on the whole has still been pretty quite. We arr...

Dan's Wildlife Blog: July 2012
http://dansbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 July 2012. I've been to the Farnes twice this year now and what a great place it is! I first went in June when breeding was well underway and there was loads of activity on Inner Farne! The second time was mid July and the island had changed a lot by then, juv arctic terns on the wing and with the puffins mainly on the sea around the island. Here is a selection of photos from both trips, don't forget to click on them for a bigger view! Seak to use this photo. Some more wide stuff. Saturday w...
Dan's Wildlife Blog: Harvey!
http://dansbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/harvey.html
Sunday, 12 August 2012. Over the last few nights myself and Ben have been filling the August photography lull with a harvest mouse named Harvey! I should point out that it's captive bread so nothing was taken from the wild! Apart from the corn.). First night was overcast so we got some standard shots of him;. The second night we arrived rather late at the field so played around with underexposing some sunset stuff;. And on the thrid night we went for an autumn berry theme. After my trip to Cuba though.

Wednesday, 25 April 2012. This weekend just passed I spent in County Durham. The main target really was to watch a black grouse lek which was simply amazing. Alarms set for 3:45 and arriving, windows down, before first light we were welcomed with noises not dissimilar to an alien attack! Snipe, curlew and lapwing all calling right near the car. Here are some dodgy black grouse records when we bumped into them during the day;. OK, that's enough snipe! I leave you with the supporting cast. After a long day...
Dan's Wildlife Blog: Tody-Tastic!
http://dansbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/tody-tastic.html
Sunday, 23 September 2012. In August I spent 15 days on the wonderful island of Cuba! This wasn't a wildlife trip but I made the most of things by getting up early most mornings whilst in Varadero and wandering around the mangroves near out hotel. I also spent two days in Zapata. In total I saw around 100 species of bird with 90 of them being new. Most of the new birds were exciting but one bird in particular stole the show, the Cuban Tody! Well done you, stunning bird, fantastic captures. Subscribe to: Po...

Bill's Birding
Moth trapping - an introduction! 10 December, 2017. Wistman's Wood in winter. Alex won find of the day with Tunbridge Filmy-fern, thriving in sizeable numbers amongst various cracks and crevices high up on the slopes. In truth, it was hard to look in any direction and not pick out something interesting to stare at. Every tree was plastered from. Bivvy bag in order to save enough room to bring along the Mosses and Liverworts of Britain and Ireland. 01 December, 2017. Nothing does autumn like a beech.
