Bea Dias' Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive for July, 2009. You mean, Swahili time or English time? July 17, 2009. Anyway, back to the subject of this blog entry. So, the time they provide you might be six hours off, as was the case with the teacher I communicated with. Now that I know this, I try to clarify whether they mean “Swahili time” or “English time” time when I try to schedule meetings so that I won’t be six hours late or early! July 8, 2009. July 6, 2009. Bea Dias' Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; In Tanzania. Dar es Salaam City Centre: Going to Town. On cold showers…. I know that was a random post, but it’s been a long day and that’s what came to mind. The fact that I ate a very delicious yet heavy lunch, is probably contributing to my sleepiness. I ate eggs with fries (chips myai) and beef kebab – yum! I should have taken a picture. Will try to take more pictures now that I am settling into somewhat of a routine here. From your own site.

Bea Dias' Blog. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; On the way to Tanzania. On cold showers…. We arrived in Dar es Salaam at about 3pm (local time) on Sunday, May 24th. The flights were fine – the Emirates flight from JFK to Dubai was particularly enjoyable, even though it was loooong…. And off we went. We thought the van was jam-packed, but no – the bus conductor actually managed to squeeze in another three or four people! Which is an organization dedicated to creating and implementing technologic...

On: July 2, 2009. So let me start by saying that I’m a mechanical engineer doing ICT research. Not exactly a cat in water, but still, not exactly what I’m trained for. In no time at all, I had Hatem’s snapped wire bypassed, and now his charger is working just fine. It felt good to get behind a lab bench after so long, and it made me remember how much I love engineering, and working with my hands. Uhuru and Haircut Pictures. On: June 12, 2009. Posted by: Anthony Velázquez. On: July 31, 2009. Today is the official last day of the iSTEP internship. While the team in Tanzania won’t be hitting home soil until Tuesday, our formal involvement in the projects ends when we pack it up today. It’s been a fun 10 weeks, a hard 10 weeks, an exhausting 10 weeks, but it certainly hasn’t felt like 10 weeks. The iSTEP team has braved monkeys. We surprised no one more than ourselves in the progress we were able to make across the three projects. In developing m...

ISTEP 2009 Team Experience. Hatem’s iSTEP Experience. Rotimi’s Thoughts on iSTEP. On: August 10, 2009. As the weeks passed, I became comfortable with my surroundings, familiar with the community members, and proactive with my work. I knew how to engage with the different communities, record data, and share it with the rest of the team. Nothing was spoon-fed to me. It was all about experiential learning and a full commitment to the success of the project in the community. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The o...
