The chicken coop went up without a hitch! In fact (and my brother-in-law who's a great carpenter agrees) - It is one of the finest made products I've ever purchased! Everything is so well thought out! And the "chicks" love it. The delivery people were very professional, courteous and helpful! The whole project has been a success! I wish you, your family and your business the very best during this holiday season and in 2005. Take Care. And Thanks Again! John N. - W. Virginia. My husband and two boys got t...

http://woodycreekchicks.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-think-we-need-second-nesting-box.html
Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Thursday, May 7, 2009. I think we need a second nesting box! The girls have been piling on in here sometimes three at a time. The weather been amazing here and the girls are loving it. Catching some long awaited sun shine. The girls have been grazing in the yard and living it up getting fresh lettuce srcaps from the greenhouse! Thanks for your great post. Raising them on my backyard :-).
Woody Creek Chicks: December 2008
http://woodycreekchicks.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Thursday, December 4, 2008. Called back to post. Suzanne has given me a nudge so here goes! Larry the chicken (and yes a female) is named after Larry our local wood carver and manager of our little art gallery here in Woody Creek. The locals call themselves woody creatures, strange I know. Not even a thank you for care taking her bird! Can you believe it? Strange, very strange. I was raised fo...
Woody Creek Chicks: We only lost 1!
http://woodycreekchicks.blogspot.com/2012/11/we-only-lost-1.html
Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Thursday, November 29, 2012. We only lost 1! All the girls, except for the original downed hen, made it through the terrible ordeal. More good news, the bees have regained their composure as well. So we are all one big happy family again. What a disaster! I still feel so guilty about dropping the honey comb and starting the whole thing. The bees are mostly in. However, we have had some excepti...
Woody Creek Chicks: Hard to report.
http://woodycreekchicks.blogspot.com/2012/01/hard-to-report.html
Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Monday, January 9, 2012. In attempts to curb as much child trauma in the situation we went with what we know best, distraction. Black and White and her crown is back and beautiful! So we were back up to six girls. We had a long exhale when Fall finally took over and the bears went into hibernation. For a fee of course but this is so much more manageable! Http:/ www.eFowl.com/? The girls are too fu...
Woody Creek Chicks: Chicken Bee Fight
http://woodycreekchicks.blogspot.com/2012/08/chicken-bee-fight.html
Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Umm Never thought in a million years that this would happen. I wanted to check on the brood levels and what was going on towards the front. I should have. The comb broke off the bar, it didn't seem like an abnormally hot day, but it just broke off. The bees freaked out. And a normally super mellow hive went HOT. On me faster than anything I had ever seen before EVER.

Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. The frost has officially hit! We picked some cucumbers that we were holding out for and a huge zucchini, not as big as the last though 17"! I ended up working so much that we worked for a full CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share in trade. We also purchased a fruit share from a organic farm, Ella Family Farms. We have been enjoying peaches, apples and pe...I kno...

Woody Creek Chicks: Ducks To Come!!
http://woodycreekchicks.blogspot.com/2012/01/ducks-to-come.html
Raising chicks in the high country of Colorado, keeping bees, gardening and trying to live more sustainable. Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Well, we've decided the Eglu will house ducklings! We are going to go with the Cayuga breed because they are least noisy. Unfortunately, we have lots of neighbors we have to cater to! Taken from www.efowl.com:. They are the most popular exhibition breed in the medium weight class. This taken from www.omlet.uk. What is so great about efowl.com, is we can order just ...

Backyard Farming
Friday, September 30, 2016. A different game of squash. Q: What do you do when summer squash morphs from tenderly edible and cute to a rock-hard, warty weapon? Oftentimes before you or your *harvest crew ever spy it in the garden! A: You unleash your own weapons of mass destruction (aka: your boys) to break the squash into compost-able smithereens. Really, Mom, you WANT us to hit the squash? Tell the boys they need to rake the spoils so you can measure who has the biggest pile. Mom for the victory! To ma...
