Planning the Bee Sampler | Backstitch
https://backstitch.wordpress.com/2008/07/28/planning-the-bee-sampler
All my needle and thread projects. Laquo; Winter Morn Kit. Swiss Folk Heart crewel kit. Planning the Bee Sampler. July 28, 2008 by bethism. This is a gift I’m making for my mom. She’s really into bees but I guess you could see that for yourself. It’s in the early planning stages, obviously. There are many, many, many mistakes. I wasn’t pleased with the beehive on a branch band until the very bottom. And some of the bees are very weird. On July 30, 2008 at 7:02 am. Hmm great idea.Is this a kit? You are co...

Bee Sampler – Finished! | Backstitch
https://backstitch.wordpress.com/2009/01/23/bee-sampler-finished
All my needle and thread projects. Laquo; Radio Silence. Swiss Folk Heart crewel kit update. Bee Sampler – Finished! January 23, 2009 by bethism. Utterly, completely, absolutely nothing left to add, finished. Except I haven’t posted it to my mom yet. But still! It is technically done even if the recipient of the gift hasn’t received it, right? To the best of my knowledge, I designed the honeycomb border, row 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 2/3 of row 10. Check out the amazing curtains I found in a thrift store! I̵...

All my needle and thread projects. Laquo; Bee Sampler – Finished! Swiss Folk Heart crewel kit update. August 11, 2014 by bethism. I finally returned to embroidery after about 5 years! I made some progress on the Swiss Folk Heart crewel kit mentioned here. It’s slow going but I hope it won’t take another 5 years. Here’s a work-in-progress shot:. I think the embroidery is ehhhhhh (and the smartphone pics) but I’m not going to let that stop me. On August 11, 2014 at 8:34 pm. On August 15, 2014 at 5:31 am.

All my needle and thread projects. Laquo; Planning the Bee Sampler. Swiss Folk Heart crewel kit. August 1, 2008 by bethism. This is a kit I’m working on right now. And this is all I have been able to finish so far. So when I say, “right now,” I mean, “whenever I’m least intimidated.”. It’s all satin and stem stitch with some french knots thrown in. Here are the instructions:. And here’s a detail of my stitching so far:. The threads of the fabric but that’s not always easy. Did in this post. Finding this ...

Stitch1Peta: October 2012
http://stitch1peta.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 1, 2012. I spent yesterday setting up our display and sale at T'Arts. Is an art collective in Gays Arcade which runs off Rundle Malls Adelaide Arcade. My stitching friend Margaret Marsh is a member there and invited several of her fellow stitchers from the South Australian Embroiderers Guild No Limits group to join her for the month of October. I was thrilled to be one of those involved. You can just see the buttons I agonized over which do look great. Below is a close up. Not all those w...
Stitch1Peta: Felt Berry Cake
http://stitch1peta.blogspot.com/2013/06/felt-berry-cake.html
Monday, June 3, 2013. I was inspired by this Chocolate Marscapone. From Call Me Cupcake when I needed to make a felt cake for The Embroiderers Guild of South Australia's SALA Exhibition. Here it is my own 'Felt Berry Cake'. SALA is The South Australian Living Artists festival. This is a month long celebration of the original works of talented artists here in our South Australia. Our members at the guild are keen to share with others that our work is "Anything But Old Hat". August 10, 2013 at 12:48 AM.

Briar Rose: Corsetry, Bras and General Adventures with the 1910s.
http://briarrosestitches.blogspot.com/2009/06/corsetry-bras-and-general-adventures.html
Saturday, 13 June 2009. Corsetry, Bras and General Adventures with the 1910s. With the help of the Corsetmakers. LJ community I found some more information about 1910s corsets. Seems women wore a bra with the under bust corsets (and that overbusts were available but rarer) I was directed towards google patents search and found this one. Designed by Marie Perrillat, that is on the right period for the corset pattern I'm using and looks moderately easy to reproduce. Has a list of links to these here .

Briar Rose: May 2009
http://briarrosestitches.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 26 May 2009. Just spotted a model for Skeletons in The Closet. Who has pretty much the hair I am planning on for my explorer outfit, there are a couple of shots of her in pretty steampunk looking attire. And in this this shot. Which I think is also her, she has a lip ring too! Till now I have never seen anyone with red dreadlocks, but it's nice to see someone rocking the locks ginger style (and it looks just as good as I imagined it). Edit: The model is Femke van Hilten. Briar Rose: 1910s on Flickr
http://briarrosestitches.blogspot.com/2009/06/1910s-on-flickr.html
Wednesday, 24 June 2009. I've created a 1910s Fashion group on Flickr, to pool together lots of visual resources. There are plenty of pictures of women wearing these clothes, as well as fashion plates and museum pieces. I 'm also tempted start a 1910s Recreation group too, to collate pictures of reproduction and 1910s inspired outfits. Http:/ www.flickr.com/groups/1910sfashion/. Also I went ot the library today and got out Norah Waugh's 'Corsets and Crinolines'! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View m...

Briar Rose: Corsets, and Obscure Cosplay
http://briarrosestitches.blogspot.com/2009/06/corsets-and-obscure-cosplay.html
Tuesday, 9 June 2009. Corsets, and Obscure Cosplay. I've been working hard on translating the German corset pattern and it seems pretty simple. Evenmoreso if I buy ready made boning channels. The hard bit is going to be making it fit me. I'll make it in white cotton coutile with black bias binding, a black pleated ribbon at the bust, black lacing and dragonfly flossing; dragonflies were popular motifs in Art Nouveau and occasionally popped up in Art Deco. Briar Rose: March 2009
http://briarrosestitches.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 30 March 2009. My hat for the Sunday Promenade is going to be art deco inspired, so I shall be using abstract shapes rather than the traditional feathers and flowers. It's going to be a round, fairly flat hat, which will perch on my head at an angle, I shall probably use strips of sinamay. And, as a nod to the Orientalism of the time, some kanzashi. Which I feel are stylised enough for the look. I may add some veiling or guaze depending on the exact placement on my head. Links to this post. Simpl...

Briar Rose: Darwin Sampler Progress
http://briarrosestitches.blogspot.com/2009/06/darwin-sampler-progress.html
Saturday, 13 June 2009. I've finished the centre piece of the sampler, the tree. Cursive copperplate handwriting doesn't translate so well onto square bases Aida, but it still looks OK. I have now started on the top line of the sampler, the doves, these are based on the traditional pigeon on page 35 of Lesley Wilkins' ' Beginners Guide to Blackwork. Thursday, January 19, 2012. Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes! Making over an old pair of flats. If you haven't checked out Aunt Peaches' blog. Do yourself a favor. Ever since I saw this post. I've wanted to revamp an old pair of shoes. I would live in flats and flip flops, if the Michigan weather would let me, so I thought I would give some new life to a sad, doggie-chewed, pair I found in a local thrift store. This is a perfect project for the pretty little scraps you have! When dry, they're ready to wear!
