Aboriginal Art: John Weeronga Bartoo
http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2006/06/john-weeronga-bartoo.html
Friday, June 16, 2006. I met John Weeronga Bartoo a few months ago. He lives about 30 minutes drive from where I am. He is an Aboriginal man who was raised by white parents and was taught only European custom. In his words . "raised as a white man". He has since taken the time to rediscover his aboriginal heritage, and paints spiritually intense art works. Here is a link to some of his paintings. Posted by Chui Tey at 9:39 AM. Aboriginal Art: Dreamings
http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2005/01/dreamings.html
Monday, January 03, 2005. The Aboriginal people have a lot of folk stories, which relate to animals. These stories have morals in them, and form the basis of how the Aboriginals conduct themselves. Nowadays, there are a sizable number of Aboriginal people who are Christian. However, these stories - called "dreamings" - are still part of their cultural heritage and cherished. Can you identify all the native Australian animals? Comments are most welcome! I'll provide the answers in the next few days.

Monday, January 31, 2005. This town in Australia is called Eromanga. In Aboriginal language, this means 'hot, windy plain'. Japanese readers will probably think it means something else. A lot of towns in Australia have Aboriginal names. It is quite common to see the names repeated. I have been told this is the plural form, to indicate many. For example:. Wagga Wagga - "Place of many crows". Kurri Kurri - "Hurry Along". Are there any places in Japan that are like this? Wagga Wagga - 多くのカラスがいる所.

Aboriginal Art: December 2004

Thursday, December 30, 2004. The symbols and their meanings シンボルとそれらの意味. All the little geometric shapes (motifs) you see on the dotted art have meanings. In the past they were used for communication between tribes, and as a way of preserving their stories on caves and on tree bark. If you follow the link above, it takes you to a online digeridoo store which explains what they shapes mean. (Note: I'm not affiliated with the store, so I can't be responsible for the contents). Friday, March 25, 2005. In Aboriginal societies, there are people who are responsible as the custodian of certain animals. They are like modern-day rangers, who have deep understanding of the animals. These people have special responsibilities, and are able to make rules about whether the animals could be killed, how they were to be killed. Apologies for the blurry photo. Aboriginal Art: Kangaroo カンガルー
http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2005/01/kangaroo.html
Tuesday, January 04, 2005. This is a dot painting in the style most people know as Australian Aboriginal art. The colours were selected to match the pigments that were used by their ancestors in the red deserts of Australia. Very ancient rock and cave paintings have been found with native animals painted in this abstract style. Some of these dot paintings are simply exhilarating to see in person, because they can be so complex, and yet simple at the same time. Posted by Chui Tey at 10:25 AM.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005. Health note: Australian fish オーストラリアの魚. My sister warned me about eating Australian fish, especially tuna. Since I like tuna very much, I'm not too happy to hear this. Japanese readers should be interested in this, because some Australian tuna end up in Japanese supermarkets. People who like whale. Should be even more careful. ここに UN Atlas of the Oceans のトピック.
