Revisiting Book Tasting to Support Readers. February 27, 2014. November 17, 2015. My colleague Jennifer Lund and I have been working with some of our ninth grade teachers this week as part of a unit they are doing with students to give students an opportunity to select a book and engage in self-facilitated reading. As many of you may know, I used a strategy, “ book tasting. Introduce the activity and briefly outline the details of the book tasting. Give students 10 minutes to “sample” our &#8...Segments ...

Makerspaces, Participatory Learning, and Libraries – The Unquiet Librarian

Makerspaces, Participatory Learning, and Libraries. June 28, 2012. November 18, 2015. The concept of libraries as makerspaces. First hit my radar last November when I read about the Fayetteville Free Library’s FabLab. As I began hearing more buzz about libraries and makerspaces the first few months of this year, I decided that learning more about this concept and exploring how I might apply the elements of makerspaces to my library program would be a personal learning project for the summer. Soaking up i...

It was truly a pleasure earlier this week to spend time with the wonderful teacher librarians of BCTLA. 8212;-they are truly among the nicest, most enthusiastic, and most progressive groups of librarians I’ve had the honor to speak to in my career. Dear FCC and ALA: Do You Really Not Get It? June 12, 2012. November 18, 2015. So I get up this morning to find this story. In my inbox courtesy of Bobbi Newman, a fellow member of the ALA/OITP Digital Task Force. My initial reaction to the content of the article isn’t fit to print here, but I have a few thoughts I’d like to share:. Our public librarians are also an existing corp of digital literacy experts. Again, why not provide funding to grow their staff and services to build upon their existing e...

Efficient Procrastinator: Simple solutions

http://kimberlyjoo.blogspot.com/2010/02/simple-solutions.html

Tuesday, February 09, 2010. I bought a cute little calendar from Barnes and Noble. It was 75% off, so I paid something like $1.75. I needed a small calendar to keep up with my all the appointments that are coming up. Something that would fit into my handbag. One thing that bugged me - flipping pages. How silly is that? But I needed something to hold back the pages from previous months, especially since the calendar goes all the way back to August 2009 (so far back in history! Tuesday, February 09, 2010.

Efficient Procrastinator: More blocks

http://kimberlyjoo.blogspot.com/2010/07/more-blocks.html

Thursday, July 29, 2010. Not a great picture I know. They are cuter in person. I've also made a few bibs and a nursing cover. I'm in the process of making a quilt for my cousin's new baby. It may be finished before she goes to college. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Those blocks are really adorable. I love the colors you chose. I so wish I had all this fun inspiration when we were starting our family. I dont know where the creativity came from, but I know where it went now that the baby is here :D.

Efficient Procrastinator: projects

http://kimberlyjoo.blogspot.com/2009/07/projects.html

Saturday, July 04, 2009. Here are some recent projects that I finished these past few months. Balint asked me to make an iPod holder, something padded, with a zipper and a pocket to hold ear buds. It's not perfect, but it works. Then I needed one since the holder I used for my mini was too small for my touch. I used this tutorial. From Sew Mama Sew. You can't see it, but I added a pocket inside to hold the ear buds and the microfiber thingie. I carry it everywhere. Projects I am working on now -.

Efficient Procrastinator: Cleaning out the guest room

http://kimberlyjoo.blogspot.com/2009/07/cleaning-out-guest-room.html

Saturday, July 04, 2009. Cleaning out the guest room. During the school year our guest room / my craft room /mom's bedroom has become a dumping ground for yarn, odds and ends and fabric. We are going to have a guest next week and I needed to do something, otherwise he was going to have to sleep with yarn. He will already have to sleep with the cats since I suspect that they use this room as their sleeping quarters as well. Saturday, July 04, 2009. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Skip To My Lou.

Giving Back | stevethelibrarian

Posted by Steve the Librarian. On April 8, 2011. I became a librarian for all kinds of reasons, some of which I detailed here. But the reason I continue to revel in being a public. So, needless to say, it drives me bonkers to see librarians who don’t enjoy their jobs, who constantly complain and whine about their patrons and their work. There are plenty of fresh, young library school graduates looking for work who would love to have their jobs. If you’re not willing to invest yourself in your commu...

Of Juggalos and Carnivals | A Non-cultural Perspective

Of Juggalos and Carnivals. June 5, 2012. The juggalo culture is one of many cultures claiming the contradictory status of “group of individuals”. They claim to be individuals yet band together into a group and conform to the same practices and symbols. So how is it possible to be a part of a culture and yet an individual? What is the relationship between individuals and cultures? This line of questioning was brought about by someone who recently left a comment on my blog post. June 3, 2012 at 8:47 am.
